Introduction to the Legal Thesaurus Systematic Display
The Legal Thesaurus offers an elaborate systematic display.
The first level consists of several microthesauri or main subject groups.
The main groups are divided into sections or subfacets and, if necessary, into further sub-subfacets.
A systematic display of subject fields is useful for browsing, as it helps to find the appropriate indexing/search term.
The ISO Standard (ISO 25964: Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies) explicitly states systematic groupings (called “Concept groups”) contrary to the standards built in the Eighties, when thesauri were still considered as a kind of unstructured keyword collections.
