Metadata

The metadata part of the Legal Thesaurus Format is intending to provide administrative information on the terminology that has been converted in SKOS.

dc:title
dc:creator
dc:contributor
dc:descriptor
dc:source
dc:language

These elements are borrowed from the Dublin Core data model (with the prefix “dc:”) and provide details about the terminology. Designing the metadata of the terminology in Dublin Core could eventually enable the OAI harvesting in the context of a repository or database of lexical or terminology resources.

The reason to use Dublin Core as basis of this profile has been its extensive use in the metadata community. It provides a simple way to describe a resource using very general metadata elements,
which can be easily matched with complex domainspecific metadata standards. Additionally, Dublin Core also can be extended to define application profiles for specific types of resources. The thesaurus metadata profile refines the definition and domain of Dublin Core elements as well as includes two new elements (metadata language and metadata identifier) to appropriately identify the metadata records describing a thesaurus.

“Status”

This element is not part of the Dublin Core data model but may be useful to check if the SKOS version of the terminology has a ‘valid’, ‘in validation’ or ‘draft’ status. This set of elements is defined in order to get the same information for all the terminology resources that will be transformed into SKOS within the Legal Thesaurus project.
